Unity Family technical documentation. This chapter describes a variety of access control features implemented on the storage system. The storage system comes with factory default user account settings to use when initially accessing and configuring the storage system. See Table 1. Table 2 illustrates the ways in which you can manage the storage system accounts. Authentication for access to Unisphere is performed based on the credentials of the user local or LDAP account.
The authorizations that apply to Unisphere depend on the role associated with the user account. Before a user can download the Unisphere UI content to a management workstation, the user must provide credentials for authentication and establish a session on the storage system. When the user specifies the network address of the storage system as the URL in a web browser, the user will be presented with a login page from which the user can select to authenticate either as a local user or through an LDAP directory server.
The credentials that the user provides will be authenticated and, upon successful authentication, a UI management session will be created on the storage system. Subsequently, the Unisphere UI will be downloaded and instantiated on the user's management workstation. The user then will be able to monitor and manage the storage system within the capabilities of the role assigned to the user. LDAP provides central management of authentication and identity and group information used for authorization on the storage system.
The role applied will determine the level of authorization the user or group will have in administering the storage system. Unisphere account user names must meet these requirements, as shown in the following table. Unisphere account passwords must meet these requirements, as shown in the following table. Table 5 shows the roles you can assign to the storage system local users and the privileges associated with these roles.
In addition, you can assign these roles to LDAP users and groups. In the case of the VM Administrator role, once connection is established between the vCenter and the storage system, a vCenter user will be able to view the subset of the storage configuration and status which is relevant to that vCenter and its ESXi servers.
The vCenter user can view only that information which is allowed through the vCenter access control mechanisms. The Unisphere CLI provides a command line interface for the same functionality available through Unisphere. Running the Unisphere CLI requires special storage system command line software. It has all the extras, like widgets and sortable tables, wizards etc. File enabled VNX systems use a command line interface to the Control Station for file administrative tasks. Block enabled systems have a host-based Secure CLI software option available for block administrative tasks.
The CLI can be used to automate management functions through shell scripts and batch files. The VNX provides three different administrative user auth scopes. All the systems within the domain can be administrated using a single sign-on with a global account.

Procedure to reset service password and admin password on VNXe. Follow these steps to reset service password and admin password on VNXe. Please Note : Be careful!! Pressing the reset button for more than 10 seconds will reset reboot the storage processor.

When you configure it the first time you set the password. If you have lost the password, connect to the serial port and contact support. They will have you enter in a username at the login that will provide a challenge sequence. Support will provide you with the response which will log you in. Then you can change the password for the grpadmin account. You will need to connect to the serial port of the array. Then call Dell Support. They will walk you through the process.

Storage Profiles control how Storage Center manages volume data.
For a given volume, the selected Storage Profile dictates which disk tier accepts initial writes, as well as how data progression moves data between tiers to balance performance and cost. Predefined Storage Profiles are the most effective way to manage data in Storage Center. By default, if no Storage Profile is specified in the volume extra specs, the default Storage Profile for the user account configured for the Block Storage driver is used.
The extra spec key storagetype:storageprofile with the value of the name of the Storage Profile on the Storage Center can be set to allow to use Storage Profiles other than the default. For ease of use from the command line, spaces in Storage Profile names are ignored. Replay Profiles control how often the Storage Center takes a replay of a given volume and how long those replays are kept.
The default profile is the daily profile that sets the replay to occur once a day and to persist for one week. The extra spec key storagetype:replayprofiles with the value of the name of the Replay Profile or profiles on the Storage Center can be set to allow to use Replay Profiles other than the default daily profile. As an example, here is how to define a volume type using the hourly Replay Profile and another specifying both hourly and the default daily profile:.
Note the comma separated string for the HourlyAndDailyType. Extra specs can be used to configure replication. The name of the Volume QOS can be specified via the storagetype:volumeqos extra spec.
Likewise the name of the Group QOS to use can be specified via the storagetype:groupqos extra spec. Volumes created with these extra specs set will be added to the specified QOS groups. Data reduction profiles can be specified in the storagetype:datareductionprofile extra spec. Available options are None, Compression, and Deduplication. Note that not all options are available on every Storage Center.
To create volume types that support no compression, compression, and deduplication and compression respectively:. Configuration is done through the cinder. The driver will use the primary until a failure.
At that point it will attempt to use the secondary. It will continue to use the secondary until the volume service is restarted or the secondary fails at which point it will attempt to use the primary. Add the following to the back-end specification to specify another Storage Center to replicate to. This will slow things down, however.
